These chests traditionally transported a bride’s possessions, including jewellery, silk saris, and occasionally brass cooking vessels, to her new household. They were also used within the home to store leftover food for future meals.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe chest is adorned with \u003cstrong\u003efinely carved geometric panels\u003c\/strong\u003e enriched with remnants of old red and green pigments and framed with red lacquer beading. The façade combines \u003cstrong\u003eMughal-influenced floral and geometric carving\u003c\/strong\u003e, while the distinctive \u003cstrong\u003ehorse-head legs\u003c\/strong\u003e and upper row of \u003cstrong\u003ecarved parrots\u003c\/strong\u003e are hallmark features of Kathi Majus chests.
