Yoshitaki was based in Osaka from the 1860's - 80's and was the most prolific designer of kabuki prints of his time. Kabuki is a classical Japanese theater style known for its highly stylised performances. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis example is a 19th century reprint. Depicted are two male kabuki actors dressed as women - a practice which began in 1628 with the introduction of \u003cem\u003eyarō-kabuki \u003c\/em\u003e(all male kabuki) The 11th c. €œTale of Prince Genji€� (Genji Monogatari) is sometimes called the oldest novel in the world. The work was written by Murasaki Shikibu, a lady-in-waiting in the imperial manor who lived in the Heian period.
