It dates to the 18th century and would have come from above a doorway of an Andhra Pradesh home. Constructed from wild jackfruit wood it depicts Lakshmi framed by elephants (\u003cem\u003eGaja Lakshmi\u003c\/em\u003e), the attendants, peacocks, lion \u0026amp; monkey carvings are all carved in the typical South Indian style. The lintel panel has many layers of paint and pitch (tar) used for weatherproofing. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese panels come from buildings in India which have fallen into disrepair. The whole piece is covered in a wonderfully rich patina.
