Blue & White Lotus Barrel Stool – Jingdezhen Porcelain

This elegant blue and white porcelain barrel stool is hand-crafted and hand-painted in Jingdezhen, China's world-renowned porcelain capital. Decorated with an intricate scrolling lotus design, it draws inspiration from the refined floral patterns found on Chinese porcelain of the Ming dynasty. The pierced openings around the sides and centre of the seat remain faithful to the traditional form, while also making the stool easy to move around the home or garden.

The lotus flower has long been one of the most important symbols in Chinese art and Buddhism. Rising pure and beautiful from muddy waters, it represents purity, harmony, spiritual enlightenment and renewal. Combined with flowing leafy scrolls, the repeating pattern creates a sense of balance and continuous growth, making it one of the most enduring decorative motifs in Chinese ceramics.

Each stool is individually thrown on the potter's wheel before being meticulously hand-painted by skilled artisans using traditional cobalt blue underglaze techniques. It is then glazed and high-fired to produce the luminous white porcelain body and rich sapphire-blue decoration for which Jingdezhen has been celebrated for over a thousand years.
