Blue & White Porcelain Jar - Auspicious Symbols

This elegant blue and white porcelain jar is richly decorated with a series of auspicious Buddhist and Daoist symbols surrounded by beautifully painted scrolling lotus flowers and foliage. The shoulder is adorned with traditional emblems representing good fortune, longevity, spiritual protection and wisdom, while the main body features an intricate floral design inspired by classic Ming dynasty porcelain. Each jar is hand-thrown on the potter's wheel before being meticulously hand-painted by skilled artisans in Jingdezhen, China's celebrated porcelain capital since 1004 AD. Every piece is created using traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations, preserving the craftsmanship that made Jingdezhen famous throughout the world. The imperial kilns have been based there since the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644 AD), and the city continues to produce some of the finest porcelain available today.

Porcelain is deeply rooted in Chinese history. Although pottery has been made in China for over 15,000 years, true porcelain is generally believed to have emerged during the Han Dynasty (202 BC – 220 AD). The distinctive blue and white decoration is created using cobalt oxide beneath a clear glaze, a technique that developed during the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD) and flourished during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
