Blue & White Porcelain Temple Jar - Snow Lion

Inspired by a celebrated 14th century Yuan dynasty temple jar in the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka, this beautifully hand-painted porcelain temple jar is produced in the renowned porcelain city of Jingdezhen. For over a thousand years, Jingdezhen has been regarded as the heart of Chinese porcelain production, supplying the Imperial Court during the Ming dynasty and continuing its remarkable ceramic traditions today.

Each jar is individually hand-thrown and decorated by skilled artists using traditional cobalt blue underglaze painting techniques passed down through generations. The design features powerful snow lions striding amongst scrolling clouds and blooming lotus flowers, symbols of protection, strength, purity and good fortune in Chinese and Tibetan art. The domed lid is crowned with a finely modelled snow lion finial, while matching lion-mask handles complete the elegant form.
