Brass Bound Rosewood Military Chest - 19thC

Military chests were originally used by officers of the British Indian Army. They were used to carry the officers clothes and personal possessions while on tour.

Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced India. They were usually made from Teak, rosewood or jackfruit wood. They were used for storing valuables such as textiles, jewellery and cash. Our pieces are mostly from the 19th century & occasionally 18th and early 20th century.
