Brass Horse & Khandoba From The Deccan - 19th Century

This small Indian cast Indian brass figure of Khandoba on horseback dates to the 19th century. It is from the Deccan Plateau, more specifically Southern Maharashtra or Karnataka.
Khandoba is a warrior manifestation of Shiva most often worshipped in central and southern India. Khandoba is detachable from the horse and holds a shield in his left hand and a sword in his right. Remnants of Tika or kumkum are prominently visible from decades of conditional devotion.
A similar example can be found in the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
