Bronze Seated Avalokiteshvara

This striking bronze figure depicts Avalokiteshvara, one of the most revered bodhisattvas in Buddhism and the embodiment of compassion. A bodhisattva is an enlightened being who chooses to remain engaged with the world rather than entering final nirvana, in order to help other sentient beings overcome suffering.
Avalokiteshvara is shown seated upon a double lotus pedestal in a relaxed, contemplative pose, with one hand supporting the head. The figure is richly adorned with an elaborate crown, jewellery and flowing garments, with finely modelled lotus flowers rising beside the shoulders.
The reproduction bronze retains a wonderfully aged surface effect, with a dark patina complemented by areas of red pigment and worn gilding.
