Painted Cedar Sideboard From Mongolia - 19thC

This beautifully painted sideboard has three doors leading to a central compartment with fitted shelves. The two end doors depict floral images and objects of wisdom. The central panel gives an insight into a past forgotten showing Mongolians in their homes.
These cabinets were used by nomadic people for the storage of grain. Also used as altar cabinets for family ancestor worship. It would have originally opened from the top by a hatch.
